What is consignment?
Once you sign a contract to become a consignor at The Children's Exchange, you are on your way to making money & recycling your kid's outgrown clothing. You drop off your items and we do the rest! Once your items sell, you receive 40-50% of the sale price {depending on whether it is clothing or a large item}. Once you have money in your account, you can take a check {any time it is over $10} or re-spend the money in the store! It's that simple.

What happens when you drop off consignment?
When you arrive at The Children's Exchange your paper shopping bag will be labeled with your name, consignor # and the date. Once the salesperson checks your account the drop off process is complete! If you are a new consignor then we will open up an account for you and review the contract together. We then sort through your bag looking for any stains, holes, brands that we do not accept, or any other issues. All items that do not meet our resale standards automatically get donated to 1 of the 5 local charities we donate items to. We do not have to sort the bag in your presence, but if you are willing to wait we are happy to sort it while you look around. Once the bag is sorted the items are entered into the system & labeled with your consignor # so that the tracking process is very simple.
What happens if my items are not accepted for re-sale?
If we find items in your bag that do not meet our resale standards, they automatically get donated to 1 of the 5 local charities we donate items to. Please keep this in mind prior to dropping off your items at the store, as we will not call you to pick up items that were not accepted. Also, please do not be offended if we do not accept your items. Our store is very small and we need to be selective.
Do I have to make a reservation to drop off my items?
YES! A reservation is required. We begin answering our phone at 11:00 am sharp and make reservations up to 1 week in advance. We are currently very backed up and can only accept 5 consignors a day. Please be patient with us we are doing the best we can.
How are the items priced?
The items are priced from 50-75% off retail depending on the condition & date of manufacturer. Price are always checked online at numerous competitors such as Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, Target, Walmart, etc. In addition, there is a per item fee worked into the sale price, this price does not affect the consignor. It is added on to the price of the item being purchased & the buyer pays the fee.
How long are my items in the store?
Items remain in the store between 2-3 months, depending on the date of drop-off. For example, if you drop off your items on June 15 they will be on sale the remainder of June, July & August. If the items have not sold, they will be part of our monthly 50% off sale in September which lasts 2 weeks. At the end of the sale whatever items remain that are expired automatically get donated to 1 of 5 local charities. Consignors are allowed to pick up their items if they wish, but we do not notify you when your items expire, it is up to you to keep tabs on your account. Every time you drop off items the cycle begins again.
What is the monthly sale?
Every month we markdown items that have a specific tag color to 50% off. The items that are marked down have been in the store 2-3 months.
Once my items sell how do I get my earnings?
Once your items sell you can re-spend your balance in the store towards a purchase at any time, you can pick up a check if your account balance is at least $10.00, or you can allow the balance to accumulate. In order for a balance to remain active the consignor must ‘use' the account at least once every 3-6 months. This means you must drop off consignment, make a purchase, or collect your earnings at least once every 3-6 months for your account to remain active. If you would like a check mailed to your home we deduct a $1.00 processing fee.
What if I am looking for an item that you don't have?
If you are looking for an item that we do not have, we will place you on our ‘Wish List'. Once the items comes in we will call everyone on the list and it then becomes first come first serve. The only way to guarantee an item is to purchase it, which can be done in store or over the phone with a credit card.
What happens if an item you have brought in has been recalled?
If an item you bring in has been recalled we will ask you to pick up the item or we will offer to dispose of it for you. Certain times, manufacturers will offer to replace recalled pieces and send new ones at no charge. If you receive the updated piece we will accept the item along with proof that the piece was replaced. Please check
